Clean energy "A boon for Utah"

The Salt Lake Tribune reported today that Governor Huntman’s plan to boost clean energy production in Utah will create thousands of new jobs and save consumers millions of dollars.
A new report says investments in energy efficiency and renewables would bring thousands of new jobs and millions of dollars if the state meets Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s clean-energy goals.

Huntsman's energy adviser, Dianne Nielson, commissioned the study, which is a cost-benefit analysis of the governor's dual push to pump up energy efficiency 20 percent by 2015 and make renewables 20 percent of electricity sales by 2020.

According to the study, released by Utah Clean Energy, a Salt Lake City-based nonprofit organization, the governor’s energy plan could net nearly 7,000 new jobs, churn $310 million in net earnings, add $300 million to the state's gross domestic product and save consumers $940 million by 2020, the study says.

Click here to e-mail Rep. Matheson and ask him to co-sponsor the American Renewable Energy Act (H.R. 889), which would require 25 percent of American energy to come from renewable sources, such as wind, solar and geothermal, by 2025. Tell Rep. Matheson that we can create jobs and protect the planet by investing in clean energy.
